Profile
Professor Oluwafemi Ayodeji Adebo is Vice Dean: Global Engagement (Faculty of Science) and Professor of Food Technology at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), South Africa. He is also Director of the Centre for Innovative Food Research (CIFR), where he leads multidisciplinary research focused on advancing sustainable and resilient food systems.
His work centres on improving traditional food processing, enhancing health-promoting food constituents, developing nutrient-dense products, and valorising underutilised food resources using conventional and emerging technologies, including 3D food printing. He has an extensive publication record of approximately 200 scholarly contributions, including articles in high-impact journals, book chapters, reports, and edited books.
His research excellence has been recognised through several prestigious awards, including the Institute of Food Technologists Emerging Leader Award, the National Research Foundation Emerging Researcher of the Year, and the University of Johannesburg Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Award for Outstanding Young Researcher, alongside multiple Faculty of Science Top Research Awards.
He is a Young Affiliate of The World Academy of Sciences and a member of the South African Young Academy of Science. Prof. Adebo has delivered numerous invited and keynote presentations globally and holds a patent. He is consistently ranked among Stanford University’s Top 2% Scientists Worldwide, with his research impact reflected in his standing as a leading food scientist in South Africa, across Africa, and globally.
